Who I am - My new Identity

Who did you create me to be

Besides broken sinner I struggle to see

You have given me a new name

Yet I often live in my past just the same

You have chosen me

You’ve given me a brand new identity

And so I long to see

Who it is I am becoming

What I know so clear

Is my sin brings me to tears

My temptation is to self-condemn

Even though that lets the enemy win

I war within myself

I wonder what shows my spiritual health

And every battle that I must engage

I fear puts me into a darker cage

I know I shouldn’t fear

I know that You are near

You’ll never let me go

I have to fight these lies to show

I am free from fear

You consider me dear

I am free because

Of Your great love for me

I am dead to sin

It does not rule

To conquer satan

This truth gives me fuel

I matter to God

And His is the only

Opinion that matters

Especially when I

Think my life’s one

Big disaster

Scripture is clear

I was fearfully and

Wonderfully made

Who am I to scoff

At what You did create

Even before I know what I will say

You chose to speak through me in such a way

To bring Yourself the glory

To show off your grand story

The Gospel is simple

It’s message is clear

You love your creation

You call us dear

When we had gone astray

When we had wandered our own way

You crafted a plan from

The very beginning

You’re Alpha and Omega You

Know the ending

You set in motion a grand plan

Of our redemption at Christ’s hand

You worked in many

People’s lives over time

You waited until the

Season was prime

How can I trace Your

Incredible seed

In this simple song

Yet that’s where you lead

I’ll try to highlight

Those who stood out the most

The patriarchs and kings

And prophets

Abel was sacrificed

His blood pointed to Christ

Who would be nailed to a tree

Who spilled His love

At calvary

Noah built an ark

Of deliverance

Pointed to our need of Christ

Who gives chance after chance

Abraham left his home

He obeyed You and went

To roam

He offered Isaac the child

Of Your promise

As Christ fulfilled the need

Of sacrifice once for all for us

Jacob wrestled with the angel

Who gave him a new name

His children grew into

A great nation

Israel could not remain the same

Joseph endured such heartache

When betrayed by his brothers

They meant to harm him

But God spared his life for another

Purpose to save his family

Purpose to feed so many

Jesus was likewise betrayed

By You and I

To save us from our sins He had to die

These men pointed to Christ

In their own way

They showed only God could

Meet the way to save

Moses said let my people go

And pharaoh like a fool

Kept saying no

Until a final plague that

Took the firstborns’ lives

Did Pharaoh finally say Go

He changed his mind

And chased Israel with

His army

The all ended up drowning

In the Red Sea

God showed off his power

So incredibly

Israel wandered in

The wilderness

A generation died for putting

God to the test

Joshua led the people

Into the Promised Land

They fought many battles

And found victory in God’s plan

We face battles to possess

Our destiny

We can fight confidently

In Christ’s calling

When judges ruled Israel was bad

When men were wicked it was sad

But God showed mercy

Time and time again

Because mercy and grace have

Always been his plan

First Saul was king

But he did a stupid thing

Forcing an offering

He thought victory would bring

But we must trust in God’s design

He will not leave His children behind

Then there was David

A man after your own heart

You loved him and chose him

To serve as king for a new start

To Israel’s history

He led them to many

Victories

He wasn’t perfect

He made his mistakes

But in the Psalms he remembered

Your unfailing grace

“Create in me a clean heart, Oh God,

And renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from Your presence

And take not Your Holy Spirit from me”

Was his plea

Where David failed he

Pointed to our need

Of a perfect King who

Would also be the offering we receive

There were women throughout

This time too

Like Rahab and Deborah

And don’t forget Esther or Ruth

They pointed to our need

Of Christ to set us free

We can’t forget Elijah

Who called fire from the sky

He mocked Baal’s prophets

And showed off God’s power

From on high

When he consumed a soaking sacrifice

Isaiah said “here I am send me”

Jeremiah cried

When destruction’s what he sees

Nehemiah restored

The great wall

Christ restored us once and

For all

Into his family we are

All living stones

And we are built on

Christ who is our cornerstone

There was silence for 400 years

Would God save his people

They wondered and feared

Then John the Baptist came along

Prepare ye the way for the Lord was his song

Then Jesus stepped into

His role of ministry

He showed he came to

Set the captive free

Many miracles He did do

Many incredible things

That are true

He turned water into wine

His miracles served as great signs

To His divinity

That in the Gospels

We can read

He healed the sick

He raised the dead

He cast out demons

He multiplied bread

He calmed the ocean

He walked on the sea

He loved his disciples

So very faithfully

And even though they forsoke

Him in his hour of need

He knew His betrayal was

Part of a bigger plan indeed

He died on a cross

He rose from the grave

He showed all His children

How he came to save

It was from sin and death

That was why He could

Forgive us instead

He ascended into heaven

The apostles watched him Rise

He gave a great commission

As He rose in the skies

Go make disciples

Baptizing them

In the Father Son and Spirit

And teaching them

To obey all I have commanded

And I am with you always

Even to the end of the age

Their mission was clear

Spread a message so dear

Repent and receive the grace of

Christ the King

He conquered sin and death

And reigns over all things

And now we worship Him

Who is supreme

We join with all creation

And we sing

Alpha and Omega

Beginning and End

Almighty God

You have called us your friend

We were unworthy

And yet for your glory

You gave a great salvation

Your’s is the victory the battles won

So now I thank you

That you make all things new

You spoke new life into me

Now I can stand with dignity

Help me rest as your child

Help me know this battle

Only lasts a little while

And when I fail let your

Amazing grace catch me

Remind me I can stomp

Scorpions and serpents under my feet

Jesus Your love surpasses all things

Jesus your love always makes me sing

Yeshua you are my faithful kind

Let all that is within me praises ring

Praises bring

Who I am

Is wrapped up in You

I am Your beloved

I know that much is true

So every day remind me

Who I am

Because You are

The Great I am

And you created me

I need your help to see

Who I am
